Argumentative essay is a special kind of writing which requires students to evaluate findings and establish a clear opinion on the matter. Firstly, An argumentative essay has to have a short but clear Introductory paragraph. Actually, an introduction is the first part of an essay that introduces the whole essay. This part will be attractive and representative of the essay.
Secondly, an argumentative essay has to have a short but clear thesis statement. The first paragraph should have a general review of the topic followed by a reason why it is important to the readers and why the audience should care about the matter at all. And of course, the author must state the thesis statement.
Thirdly, Background information is needed to write a perfect argumentative essay. In this portion of an essay, the writer should narrate the background history of the topic.
Fourthly, each body paragraph should be focused on one general idea to avoid confusion. Paragraphs should have evidential support along with explanations of how and why provided evidence support the thesis stated in the first paragraph. However, one should remember that a well-structured and successful argumentative essay will also take into consideration other points of view that don’t support the thesis.
Fifthly, Counterargument which is used to refuting earlier arguments and give weight to the actual position is called a counterargument. In other words, it is an argument offered in opposition to another argument used in that essay.
Finally, the essay must have a strong conclusion, which re-addressed the thesis based on the evidence provided in body paragraphs. The author should avoid introducing new information, but summarize what was written in the body of the essay. The conclusion is part of the essay that will have the most impact on the minds of readers, so the writer must focus on making it logical and effective.
In conclusion, it can be said that this kind of essay not only gives information but also presents an argument with the supporting ideas and opposing ideas of an argumentative issue. The conclusion should not simply restate the introductory paragraph. If the conclusion says almost the exact same thing as the introduction, it may indicate that the writer has not done enough critical thinking during the course of the essay.
